Let's see... I have Dr. Maruki, Owain, Kazuya-kun, Aurora...
Akira-kun and Minato-kun are going to be working at the cafe, so they'll be there! I hope you get to meet them.

I've heard wonderful things about both. Kazuya and Charlie are friends, I think. I've spoken with Dr. Maruki a few times too.

This sort of thing is suited to a smaller affair, I think. It will be...intimate.

I really do think you would get along with Akira-kun. He's kind, but he's got a bit of that mischievousness in him.

[ And a million hobbies apparently. Poetry is probably one of them. ]

I think so, too. I sort of want to emulate that feeling of community my grandfather fostered when he ran his own cafe chain.

Oh! I didn't realize that's where you'd drawn your inspiration from. Did you grow up visiting your grandfather's cafes?

When I was very young, yes. Father used to take me when the cafe was still open. I remember trying coffee for the first time and thinking it was so bitter!
I don't have many memories of the cafe because of how young I was, but the chain unfortunately shut down before I could really appreciate his vision.

Oh. I'm sorry to hear that.

It sounds like you have lovely memories otherwise, though.

I didn't know either of my grandfathers very well. They were strict, I remember.

What are your parents like then? You're from an earlier time than myself, so I'm curious what the American culture is like from that time.

[Ah. Well, he doesn't want to reject her question completely. That would only draw more attention to this terrible shame he feels. [ She had had a different perception of American parents, just based on movies and TV shows she had seen from overseas, so she's a bit surprised to hear that. But those were supposed to be fiction... and Neil is from an older generation, with certain values her own father upheld in her time. ]

I miss my mother. Still, I think it's worth it. Maybe I should have just run away.

While I empathize with the sentiment, I'm not sure if running away solves anyone's problems.
I think I entertained the thought once, but I was too scared. And even then... I had to face those problems head on.

[ But she had actual powers to solve it. She doesn't know anything about Neil and Charlie's world other than it seems... normal. ]

Is it wrong to presume your father is more stricter than your mother?

[Neil can't bear to say it, but he did run away. He solved his problems with a bullet and a gun, and now, all he has left to do is sit around and think about them. Haru is braver. Haru didn't leave her friends behind to grieve. He should take her advice, but it feels too late. So, he merely answers her question, no more talk of how to solve problems, or whether or not to run.]

He is. She just does whatever he says. Not that I blame her. [Maybe he does, just a bit. Maybe he should, just a bit.]

A lot of married women are expected to be subservient to their husbands. I imagine for our parents, their generation can't release themselves from society's expectations so easily.
But we're the younger generation, so we can do it. We can free ourselves from those expectations and rules.

[Neil freed himself, alright. He feels ill, thinking about it. He always feels ill, thinking about it.]

It never seemed that way to me. Most of the guys I knew at Welton would have done anything their parents told them to do. That's just the way it had to be.

So, how can anyone free themselves? We were all meant to be doctors, bankers, lawyers, not living people.
